Coaching Certification Checklist
Want to be a Coach? Interested in helping out with a program? Below are the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) requirements in order to become a paid or volunteer coach in the State of Ohio. These certifications/requirements should be on file in the district office prior to coaching or volunteering for any sports program.
- BCI/FBI Background Check
- Upon board approval, you will receive information regarding your BCI/FBI background check at the MRESC in Sidney, OH. This information will be sent via USPS along with your coaching contract

- Fundamentals of Coaching Certification can be completed at the NFHS Learn website.
- Approx. 4-5 hours * does not have to be completed in one session
- Cost: $65 (reimbursed)
- Concussion in Sports
- Concussion Certification can be completed at the NFHS Learn website.
- Approx. 30 mins
- Cost: FREE
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- CPR Classes provided by Wilson Health Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers.

- First Aid and Safety – Pupil Activity Class (Wilson Health)

- If you are renewing your PAP or getting it for the first time, you will need to complete a mental health certificate. You will need to upload certificate when submitting your Pupil to state. If your PAP is currently active, you do not need to take class.
